Air Vendors Governance & Partnerships Director

Are you ready to own and safeguard the operating framework that underpins our ability to sell air, car, and packages globally? Are you skilled in commercial contract management, adept at mitigating operational risk, and comfortable navigating regulatory complexity? Expedia Group is looking for an Air Vendors Governance & Partnerships Director to own the operating model and partner strategy for third-party IATA vendors across global markets and serve as a trusted advisor across the organization.
You will be accountable for ensuring business continuity, regulatory compliance, and commercial performance of millions in air and packages by managing a portfolio of third-party IATA vendors. This highly cross-functional leadership role will own contract governance, performance management, and risk mitigation, driving high-impact projects and cultivating deep relationships across internal and external stakeholders. You will coach stakeholders, develop business cases for high-stakes change, and champion Expedia Group’s mission for sustainable, resilient global air operations. In addition you will be required to support the Trips Connectivity & Industry Standards team to deliver Expedia Groups� strategy for existing and future Trips Lines of businesses.
This role reports to the Senior Director, Trips Connectivity and Industry Standards.
In This Role You Will:
Strategic Vendor Ownership and Risk Management:
- Serve as the ultimate owner of EG’s Air business continuity and Air Vendor strategy in key markets leveraging third-party IATA vendors where applicable.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive operating model for risk mitigation, commercial performance, and contract enforcement with all Air vendors.
- Lead market strategy development and regular updates to leadership, making recommendations on vendor consolidation, expansion, or transition to in-house licensing.
- Proactively seek and build relationships across Expedia Group to foster cross-functional collaboration, identity gaps and new opportunities to establish scalable and resilient processes.
- Collaborate with the Global Market team to monitor market activity and seasonality to proactively identify and resolve capacity, cash flow, and solvency risks, leveraging broad industry knowledge to inform strategy
- Act as a trusted advisor, bringing data-driven insights to lead cross-functional business continuity planning, including playbooks for financial distress or vendor insolvency
Contract Management and Governance:
- Own and serve as principal negotiator for IATA Vendors-related contract terms; design and implement contractual frameworks focused on operational resiliency, financial controls, and regulatory reporting.
- Collaborate with Legal and internal stakeholders for contract amendments and commercial escalations.
- Lead quarterly and ad hoc financial reviews with vendors, ensuring accuracy in commission reconciliations and payment terms.
Trips Connectivity:
- Champion initiatives that actively support EG’s Trips Connectivity strategy fostering alignment between external partners and internal connectivity teams.
Experience and Qualifications:
- A proven cross-functional leader and influencer—comfortable building trust with executives and partners, and coaching teams to deliver value.
- 10 years� + experience in travel, airline, or supplier management, including account management, contracts, compliance, or commercial operations.
- Deep expertise in vendor governance, operational risk mitigation, and complex contract negotiation.
- Strong knowledge of IATA, PCI-DSS, and travel regulatory frameworks; prior experience addressing issues of vendor solvency and market continuity is highly preferred.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
