Job Purpose
The Lead Lineman is responsible to lead a small crew in the placement of aerial fiber cable and all facets of outside plant construction. The Lead Lineman will perform and provide guidance/training to junior linemen in placing aerial strand and cable by climbing poles, using ladders, and operating bucket or line trucks. The lineman may also place buried cable or run drops as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
听 听 听 听ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
鈥⑻� 听Perform all duties pertaining to telecommunication line placement and construction
鈥⑻� 听Safely operate and maintain aerial bucket/line trucks, reel trailers, lashers and associated eqpt
鈥⑻� 听Install hardware, strand, anchors, down guys, overhead guys, etc.
鈥⑻� 听Install fiber and coax cables from pole to pole, manholes, into buildings, etc.
鈥⑻� 听Follow all safety requirements and actively promote safe practices within the crew
鈥⑻� 听Perform construction duties while on a ladder
鈥⑻� 听Climb poles at different heights in order to perform construction duties听
鈥⑻� 听Respond to corrective network problems, performing effective and efficient problem analysis, rapid troubleshooting diagnosis and prompt repair of cable/hardware/equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met
鈥⑻� 听Accurately prepare and complete concise reports relating to repair data: network location(s), materials used, time, etc.
鈥⑻� 听Provide guidance and training to junior linemen regarding safety precautions and procedures as well as technical scope
鈥⑻� 听Assign tasks to junior linemen and coordinate line crew activities听
听 听 听 听OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
鈥⑻� 听Read maps and procedures to complete daily work
鈥⑻� 听Plan and implement preventative maintenance routines to ensure network standards of performance are met
鈥⑻� 听Ensure required information is reported to the correct parties in a timely, accurate and professional manner
鈥⑻� 听Maintain and track tool and material inventory as assigned听
鈥⑻� 听Other duties as assigned by the Field Manager

Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS听
听听 听Education and Experience
鈥⑻� 听Gr.12 High School Diploma or equivalent
鈥⑻� 听Minimum 2 years experience in CATV/fiber telecom industry required
听听 听Skills and Skill Levels
鈥⑻� 听Excellent English speaking/communication skills (verbal and written)
鈥⑻� 听Proficient computer skills (specifically MS Outlook; Word, Excel preferred as well)
鈥⑻� 听Ability to work at heights over 30ft
鈥⑻� 听Ability to lift equipment/ladders up to 75lbs
鈥⑻� 听Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
鈥⑻� 听Ability to lead others and foster safe performance of a line crew
听听 听Other Requirements
鈥⑻� 听Valid Driver鈥檚 License 鈥� Class 5 with Air Brakes certification or Class 3
鈥⑻� 听Incumbent must obtain a Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract on regular intervals upon starting and during employment
鈥⑻� 听Ability to work standing and overhead for extended periods
鈥⑻� 听Strong mechanical aptitude
听 听 听 听 WORK ENVIRONMENT
鈥⑻� 听Monday to Friday (8am 鈥� 5pm); however, some weekends or overnights may be required with minimal notice
鈥⑻� 听Regular after-hour support required for live work during maintenance windows (2am-6am)
鈥⑻� 听Most tasks are performed outside in all weather conditions
鈥⑻� 听Travel up to 90% of the time (covering New Brunswick and Nova Scotia)
鈥⑻� 听In this position you will be assigned to many sites, routes and a large coverage area and may be asked to join an on-call rotation to provide our customers emergency support

General Job Requirements
- Must be able and willing to do overnight travel
- Must be able and willing to operate a forklift.
- This position requires you to drive a company vehicle. Therefore, you must be able to pass the company鈥檚 driving requirements. Certain vehicles may also require a specific drivers license and have additional driving requirements.
- Must be able to differentiate colors.
- Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime.
- Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Risk of electrical shock.
- This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
- This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.
