What is special about this role?
As a DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer 鈥� Cloud & Automation at Helix, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, and securing our critical cloud infrastructure that supports our platform. You collaborate closely with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to innovate and evolve our cloud infrastructure while ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
As a DevOps & Infrastructure Engineer 鈥� Cloud & Automation, you will:
- Innovate on new ways to evolve our cloud infrastructure and support our product teams.
- Collaborate with product managers, scientists, and other engineers to synthesize requirements and author new engineering designs.
- Build for reliability and scale across users and health systems.
- Advance Cloud Engineering best practices.
- Implement strategies to optimize cloud spending and maximize budget ROI
- Design, architect, and implement robust and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS and other cloud platforms.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes.
- Implement and manage observability tools and frameworks to monitor system health, performance, and identify potential issues.
About You:
- A passion for improving people鈥檚 lives through access to better information about their DNA
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in cloud architecture, deployment, and operations, with increasing levels of responsibility.
- 3+ years of software development experience in one of the following: Go, Python, or a similar language, with a focus on cloud-native development.
- 3+ years of experience in cloud computing, with at least 2 years of demonstrable expert-level experience with AWS services.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, demonstrating ownership and timely resolution of incidents.
- Expert-level sysadmin skills in a Linux environment, including strong Bash scripting abilities for automation and troubleshooting.
- Solid experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling/frameworks 鈥� e.g., Terraform and CDK 鈥� for consistent and repeatable infrastructure deployments.
- A strong affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and continuous delivery practices.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Familiarity with using AI-powered cost optimization tools to identify and implement cloud cost savings recommendations.
- Ability to leverage AI-powered code analysis tools for improving code quality and security.
Pluses:
- Direct experience with CircleCi, Rollbar and Pagerduty
- Familiarity with full-stack development
- Familiarity with regulated software systems and entities
- AWS or other cloud certifications
- Multi Cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- BS+ in Computer Science; coursework in genetics or bioinformatics

Expected Pay For This Role:
There are 2 distinct parts to your Helix offer: 1) Base Salary聽 2) Annual Bonus聽
Expected Helix Annual Base:聽 $723,000- $931,500 MXN Annually
Expected Helix Discretionary Annual Bonus: 5% of your annual salary
The salary range above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across your region. Actual starting pay will be based on non-discriminatory job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. - For those who live in CDMX: We gather intentionally in our office space once per week to work on things like pair programming/live collaboration, skillshare sessions, social segments, team lunches, and volunteering opportunities.
What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:
We want to make sure your first week is spent learning the foundations. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and spend time with your hiring manager developing your individual roadmap to success. This experience will include sessions that cover your benefits, security & privacy training, an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix and our communication tools and norms.听
What To Expect During Your First 90 days:
First 30 days:聽 you鈥檒l spend time learning the Helix way, completing training and onboarding for your roles, and getting introduced to your team and relevant stakeholders. You鈥檒l also gain a deeper understanding of our customers, our products, the impact we make in the lives of our communities, and how to thrive at Helix through participation in Helix U.听聽
Day 30 - 60: you鈥檒l spend time contributing to projects, deeply familiarizing yourself with team and company processes, and developing a deeper understanding of Helix鈥檚 products, services and capabilities.听
Day 60 - 90: you鈥檒l build your OKRs with your manager, start to take ownership of projects and initiatives on your team, and begin to demonstrate your impact on the Helix mission.听
